The Electric Daisy Carnival!

Some be may wondering why this post is titled as such, but many who already know about electronic dance music culture are no stranger to what this will be about. The Electric Daisy Carnival is a electronic dance music festival that has been around since 1997 and since 2011 they have held this event at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Nevada. This music festival is one of the biggest in the world and many travel from all over to attend.

I have asked many people who work on the strip in Las Vegas what they feel is the busiest time of the year for them and most of the time they will say EDC week. This festival has been so successful in Las Vegas, that the city has even labeled the week during the event EDC Week. During this time, many DJs from all over the world will play pre-parties at different venues on the strip leading up to the main event. The boost in revenue and the amount of people that show up in the city is so great that the city lets this event keep taking place, even though many problems do occur.

The main problem is the amount of traffic that comes from people heading to Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The event is a three day festival and there is only one highway leading to and from the speedway. Every night, roughly 135,000 people head to and from the speedway. This is a logistical nightmare. Almost everyone driving to the event has to wait in traffic for hours. The event does provide shuttles to the speedway, but even these shuttles are plagued with problems and long wait times. Even with these issues, the event is so spectacular, that these inconveniences seem minor.

The event is held by a company called Insomniac Productions, and just recently they announced the dates for the 2018 event. They moved the event from June to May in order to hopefully have it take place with a cooler temperature. Another thing added for next year is the addition of allowing attendees to camp at the speedway. They have never done this before, but the goal is to alleviate the amount of people that have to travel to the speedway each night. I personally do not feel that camping in Las Vegas during May is a good idea, but to each their own.

This electronic dance music festival is my personal favorite and it's truly breathtaking to witness. Even if you are not a fan of this music, to go and witness the amount of production that is put into this event is amazing. It really is something beautiful.
